About
Kayla Rumpp (she/her) is a visual artist, and educator from Tennessee. Her work explores the relationship between painting and sculpture, and is informed by a fascination with childlike ways of making and seeing within a practice of play. Rumpp’s sculptural-paintings synthesize an intuitive use of color and material with regimented systems for deriving shapes and color palettes.
Rumpp earned a MFA in Painting and Drawing (2023) from the University of Iowa. She also holds a MS in Art Education (2017), and a BFA in 2D Studio Art (2016), from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. She has been featured in several publications including New American Paintings, Burnaway, Create! Magazine, The Tennessean, I Like Your Work, and The Nashville Scene. Her work has been shown in venues across the US including recent exhibitions at Channel to Channel Gallery (TN), Ladies' Room LA (CA), James May Gallery (WI), Metropolitan Gallery (TX), and the Scope Art Fair in Miami Beach (FL).
